From January 1999, the Currawong House HOUSING & SUPPORT
programme for Mentally
Ill people with a
Subtance Abuse
problem (MISA) reverted to a general
accommodation service of the mental Health Service. Opened in August
1996 as a joint project of the Hornsby Drug and Alcohol Service and
the Mental Health Service it was based on a group home for 3 people
(men and/or women) with a harm minimisation model in which residents
were expected, over time, to reduce and perhaps cease substance use.
The failure of clients to achieve these goals has lead to the house's
change in function.
