General Information
Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital
Bankstown-Lidcombe hospital is a Major Metropolitan Acute General Hospital with 454 beds (including 18 surge beds).
It caters for approximately 27,000 inpatient separations per year.
The hospital has 8 operating rooms, 2 endoscopy rooms, 6 birthing rooms and a family centred birthing room.
It also offers services such as emergency, intensive care, day surgery and neonatology.
There is also short-term residential accommodation for relatives of critically ill patients.
The Bankstown-Lidcombe hospital is a full teaching hospital of the University of NSW, and an
associate of the University of Western Sydney, Macarthur. It has close affiliation with
the University of Sydney - Cumberland Campus in the training of Allied Health
Professionals. Postgraduate training is available in Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry,
Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and General Practice.
Transport
Trains frequent the Bankstown & East Hills line at 5-15 minute intervals where connecting
buses are available for transfer to the Hospital
Parking
Parking is provided within meters of the hospital entrance providing safety for both staff and visitors. The car park uses a ticket based system at a rate of $2.00 per hour to a maximum of $8.
Taxi Service
A free phone service is available within the
hospital to call for taxis. These phones are located in the main foyer near the Admissions
Department and in the Emergency Department for your convenience.
Public Telephones
Public telephones are available throughout the
hospital on all levels. Phone cards may be purchased from the coffee shop, situated within
the hospital grounds.
Kiosk
Be allured by the aroma of the best cappuccino in
town. Our coffee shop is situated in the foyer of the hospital, providing
friendly service and succulent snacks for both visitors and staff. Open 8am-8pm
Medical Centre:
A Medical Centre is located at the
front of the Hospital. Services located within the centre include a pharmacy,
physiotherapy, specialist services, coffee shop, radiology and general practice.

The Bankstown Health Service is a unit of South Western Sydney Area
Health Service comprising the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, Mental Health
and Community Health Centres. The Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital provides the following subspecialty services:
Medicine
Cardiology, Neurology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Medical Oncology,
Haematology, Rheumatology, Renal Medicine and Dialysis, Geriatrics and Rehabilitation,
Aged Care Psychiatry and Paediatrics.
Surgery
Urology, Vascular, Breast, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Plastic Surgery and
General Surgery.
Allied Health
Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Speech Pathology,
Neuropsychology, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Orthoptics and Medical Library.
Diagnostic
Pathology, Cytology, Fine Needle Aspiration, Radiology (spiral CT scan, angiography, DSA, mammography), Nuclear
Medicine and bone Densitometry, Ultrasound including endoscopic, Neurophysiology (EEG,
EMG), Non-invasive cardiac testing including Stress testing, Echocardiography and Doppler,
Stress Thallium testing, Gated Heart pool scans, SPECT, Endoscopy including Bronchoscopy,
Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP (diagnostic and interventional).

Community Health
Community Health provides a full range of services to meet the needs of the community of the Bankstown
Local Government Area. Community Health is located on a number of sites with head office
being located in the Bankstown Community Health Centre, 36-38 Raymond Street.
Community Health provides the following services:
- Primary Health Nursing
- Early Childhood Centres
- Palliative Care and Health Promotion
- Womens Health Service - including health promotion and Well Womens Clinic
- Sexual Assault Service, Youth Health Service - including Adolescent services
- Ethnic Health Services - including Ethnic Aged Health Service and Mereki Cottage
- Child and Family Service - including counselling, parentcraft, child development, speech
and occupational therapy, physiotherapy and physical disabilities.
- Drug and Alcohol Service - including needle & syringe exchange
- Dental Service - including adult and children services, SOKS program, relief of pain
clinic, denture for pensioners scheme and children services
- Aged Care Assesment Team
The Community Health Service aims to empower people to manage health better in a
community setting. The service is committed to improving the health of the people of
Bankstown through providing comprehensive, accessible and accountable health services
which address the social, emotional, physical, cultural and environmental aspects of
health in the community.

Mental Health
Bankstown Mental Health Service is an integrated service comprising a 30 bed inpatient unit, comprehensive
community based programs including extended hours service, ongoing case management,
anxiety disorders clinic, community support and skills program, work assessment and
retraining unit, a recreation program and a 5 bed community based rehabilitation
residential unit.
The Mental Health Service is committed to improving the health of residents in the Bankstown Local
Government Area. New services addressing the mental health needs of children and
adolescents include: a severe conduct disorder program for 0-5 years old, an adolescent
suicide and depression prevention program and an early intervention program targeting
adolescent and young adults. These new programs have been mainstream into Child and Family
and Youth Health Services.
Recent enhancements will also ensure better service delivery and improved health outcomes for adolescents from
non-English speaking background and members of aboriginal communities.
