Overview of Clinical Areas.

The hospital is a 92 bed acute care facility. It provides a wide range of clinical services to the population of the Wingecarribee Shire and attracts some patients from the surrounding areas.

The main clinical building is named Milton Park General after the former home of the Horden Family (of department store fame) in recognition of their long time charitable contribution to the service.

On the bottom floor is located the 24 bed Level 2 Maternity Unit. The unit offers a complete range of care and facilities for pregnant women. Located within the unit is a birthing centre designed to offer the mother a more relaxed alternative to routine confinement. Staffing is provided by registered midwives and enrolled nurses.

The first floor of Milton Park General contains 32 medical and surgical beds which accommodate patients for most routine operative procedures and care for common medical disorders and includes 2 beds designated for Mental Health patients. Staffing is maintained by registered nurses and enrolled nurses.

Located on the top floor is the High Dependency Unit of 8 beds. It offers closer observation of patients needing Coronary care surveillance, those at risk and those patients who would benefit from closer observation. Staffing is with registered and enrolled nurses.

Adjacent to the High Dependency unit is the Operating Rooms Suite and Central Supply unit.

The operating room suite contains two operating rooms and a recovery area that can accommodate four recovering people at any one time. The central sterile supply area assists in the maintenance of the stock of the sterile goods and material used within the hospital. Clinical staffing is by registered and enrolled nurses with the assistance of non - clinical staff in the sterilizing department.

Yeoman Ward built in the 1930’s is located on the ground floor attached to the eastern end of the administration block. It was formerly a Nightingale Ward and today contains 10 childrens ward beds and 7 short stay / day only beds. Staffing is by registered and enrolled nurses. A paediatric outreach program is offered through the Yeoman Ward

Emergency Unit, consisting of 10 beds is a newly opened purpose built, spacious and highly functional unit. Staffed by registered nurses the unit offers 24 hour care for the management of individuals presenting with acute illness or following an accident.

Cardiac Assessment Unit is located in the Watson Unit with other allied health services. Originally built as an isolation ward today it offers cardiac performance assessment and cardiac rehabilitation services. It is staffed by registered and enrolled nurses.

General Information

Experienced nurses.

For the experienced nurse we offer streams of clinical practice that allows extended professional development because we do not have onsite interns, residents or registrars. With the exception of the Career Medical Officer in Emergency and the Director of Medical Services in the Old Hospital, our medical cover is provided by Visiting Medical Officers. This fact causes nursing staff to be even more aware of clinical changes and encourages them to develop more problem-solving skills.
