Karitane Family Care Cottages provide a relaxed environment where families with young children can discuss their concerns with qualified staff.

These concerns may include:

• Sleep and settling difficulties
• Feeding difficulties - breast and bottle feeding
• Difficulty with parenting skills
• Effective management and limit setting for toddlers and pre-schoolers
• Parents feeling isolated and without support
• Difficulty with the transition to parenting
• Postnatal stress, anxiety and depression

The team members at Karitane Family Care Cottages are qualified staff, experienced in assisting families with young children. We are able to offer information and a flexible approach to parenting.

Members of the team include:

• Registered Nurses with specialist qualifications in Child and Family Health
• Lactation Consultant
• Enrolled Parentcraft or Mothercraft Nurses
• Psychologist / Social Workers
• Administrative assistant

Services provided:

• Parenting information and support
• Individual and family counselling
• Small baby sleep and settle program*
• Big baby sleep program*
• Postnatal depression support groups
• A Womens as Mothers groups*
• Referral to Resident Unit

The family Care Cottages are open from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday - providing half or full day consultations by appointment.

The family Care Cottages are secondary level services. A referral is required except for the above services marked with *. Referrals can be made by your Early Childhood Nurse, GP, Paediatrician or other professional caregiver. Intake hours for referral are 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
