It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Liverpool Hospital Public Information site. The site has been developed in conjunction with the Trauma Department at Liverpool Hospital and the University of NSW. The information on this website is a reflection of the Trauma Department's viewpoints in key areas in trauma, it is not meant to provide a dogmatic overview of trauma. The aim of this website is to provide you with an explanation of some key areas in trauma with simplification of some medical terms and inclusion of illustrations. In addition, I have organised some hyperlinks to other important information sites and provided a glossary of terms commonly used in trauma. I would like to acknowledge the support of the entire Trauma Department and Imran Butt for his work with illustrations. It is important to remember that trauma has a significant impact upon the Australian society. In the year of 1997, for example, there were 4,500 trauma deaths. An estimated 200,000 trauma admissions to our hospitals and probably in excess of 5,000,000 injuries at a community and household level. The social and economic impact of trauma is immense and the Trauma Department at Liverpool Hospital seeks to provide information for you and your family on key issues in trauma care. We wish to advise that the rest of this website is suitable for medical practitioners and allied health personnel only. We would therefore encourage you as a member of the public to confine your visit to the Public Information section. |
