Dr. Michael Sugrue

Scott D'Amours is the Deputy Director of Trauma at Liverpool Hospital.  He is a trauma surgeon with additional interests in critical care and surgical oncology. Scott is an enthusiastic trauma and surgical educator and is lecturer in trauma at the University of New South Wales.  He is always looking for ways to "do things better". In addition to his clinical surgical practice, Scott pursues interests in performance improvement and trauma systems development.

Scott D'Amours

Leo Geeraedts joined the Trauma Department as the Clinical Trauma Fellow for 2005. He is a general and trauma surgeon from The Netherlands and also trained in orthopedic trauma surgery. Further, Leo has experience as an emergency physician at a HEMS performing prehospital trauma care.

Grant Christey is a general and trauma surgeon and lecturer in trauma at the University of New South Wales. He originates from New Zealand and joined the team in 2005. Within trauma, his interests include teaching, trauma surgery and epidemiology; other interests include complex wound management and surgical instrument design.

Erica Caldwell is the Trauma Nurse Co-ordinator. Prior to this Erica was the Trauma Data Manager for the Regional Trauma Registry for South Western Sydney since 1995. Her nursing qualifications include three nursing certificates (general, psychiatric and midwifery). She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree (Psychology) at Macquarie University in 1993 and commenced Master of Public Health (UWS). Added to her background of experience in emergency nursing, education, community mental health and occupational health management, Erica has gained a wealth of experience with trauma systems, monitoring patient outcomes and key performance indicators. As Trauma CNC, Erica's role is to coordinate the activities and outcomes of trauma by the provision of leadership and expert clinical advice to patients carers and other health professionals in trauma related matters. Her role also includes coordination of trauma education programs such as Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) and Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC).

Sally Horder is the Trauma Case Manager. Sally has been an Emergency nurse since graduation, mostly in the rural and remote setting of NSW. Her qualifications include Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing, First Line Emergency Care (FLEC trained), Trauma Nursing Core Course, Disaster Training and she is currently completing her Master of Clinical Nursing. Sally’s role as Trauma Case Manager is to co-ordinate the care of the trauma patient, from arrival to discharge.

Katherine Smith is the Trauma Data Manager for the Regional Trauma Registry for South Western Sydney. Katherine's qualifications include Bachelor Applied Science (Hons) in Orthoptics (1996), and Masters in Health Information Management (1998). Katherine's prior positions include Medical Records Manager and Research & Statistics Manager.

As Trauma Data Manager, Katherine's role is to manage the SWS Regional Trauma Registry. This includes entering, auditing, monitoring and reporting on registry data. Reports are provided to internal & external customers for purposes including: research, clinical quality, performance improvement, and providing evidence-based answers to clinical trauma questions.

Katherine Smith

Maria Seger was the Trauma Nurse Co-ordinator and the longest member of the Trauma Department. Maria had 18 years nursing experience(including 8 in ICU and 3 in Emergency), in both clinical and managerial roles. In 1992 Maria upgraded her original General Nursing Certificate to a Graduate Diploma in Nursing. She has also obtained several additional Certificates, including Acute Care (1982), Cannulation Intubation (1984), Industrial Relations (1984) and Advanced Resucitation (1995).

Maria passed away unexpectedly in August 2000. She is sadly missed and will be remembered always.
