INTRODUCTION

The program enables women of non-English speaking backgrounds to acknowledge their capacity to rebuild their lives after migrating and to live in the Australian society as confident, active members.

Living with choices follows the principles of the Healthy Women bilingual community education program.  It uses active learning techniques in an environment where women can think through the issues for themselves and relate them to their own and other's experiences.  In this supportive environment women's personal and cultural values are respected.

GOALS

The goals of this program are:

  • to enable women of non-English speaking background to draw on their inner resources in order to be self determining.

  • to create opportunities for change for themselves.

  • to model those changes in the community in which they participate.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the program, women will be able to:

  • Define what self esteem and confidence are for them.

  • Express clearly a sense of who they are.

  • Acknowledge and express their feelings constructively.

  • Recognise their rights as women.

  • Identify ways of taking better care of themselves physically and emotionally.

  • Practise different ways of relating to others.
